Lotus saw the
need for instantaneous networked communications and document control
/ management far in advance of the rest of the industry. The solutions
they developed are the trend setters and, although still rapidly
evolving, are mature stable products.
 Although
most often compared to Microsoft Exchange, Notes is a far more versatile
and extensive product. Exchange works well in an environment that
just needs a good e-mail system, Notes on the other hand offers
a far wider and more powerful file sharing, messaging document management
and web-application serving environment.
There are a
few new comers to this category and we continue to keep an eye on
them. But at this time Notes continues to be the premiere solution.
Frankly most
of the clients we deal with don't have the time to be a guinea pig
for the works-in-progress that most other software companies are
currently offering.
 As
the server portion of Lotus Notes became more and more powerful,
Lotus began to develop exiting new applications for it. Eventually
they began to refer to the server part of the Notes environment
as Domino Server. Many powerful changes and additions have been
developed for the Domino server over the last year.
